
Hanks His next role was that of an astronaut and commanding officer Jim Lovell in the 1995 docudrama Apollo 13. This reunited Hanks with Ron Howard. Film critics generally praised the film as well as the performances of the entire cast, including actors Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris and Kathleen Quinlan. The film received nine Academy Award nominations and won two. Hanks was the voice of Sheriff Woody in Disney/Pixar's computer-animated feature Toy Story (1995). The following year, Hanks made his directorial debut in the musical comedy That Thing You Do! (1996) about the rise and decline of a popular 1960s group in addition to playing the role of a music producer. Time magazine's Richard Schickel called it "charming", while most reviewers agree that Hanks' performance earned him a place among the top romantic comedy actors of in his generation.
