Allison Stokke and Alyce Caron
Allison Stokke, born in Newport Beach, California on 22 March 1989, is among America's most renowned and richest Pole Vaulters. A photo of her track meets at 17 years old went viral in 2007. The result was that she became a pole vaulter. Instagram as well as Twitter are her most popular social media platforms. She is a well-known athletics track and field player similar as Jessica Ennis Hill. The Los Angeles Times, among other newspapers, reported that Stokke did not seek or supported the kind of publicity. Brett Hutchins and David Rowe in their book Technology Power and Culture in the Network Society connected Stokke to the cases of American soccer players Alex Morgan and Hope Solo Female athletes that claim to have been sexually abused and had their public images depicted in such a manner that they were unable to emphasize their sports accomplishments. The authors also pointed out that Stokke's comments on social media frequently insult and attribute the sexualization of the situation to women. Many others made parallels to Brandi Chastain's celebration of her victory at the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup final in her sports bra. Women's athletic achievements were masked by the discussion of their looks. Photos of Stokke performing on the track in New York in early 2007 were snapped by a journalist for a Californian track and field web site and posted online. With Leather, a popular sports blog that has a lot of male readers, re-posted the photo in May with the caption Pole Vaulting Is Sexy Barely legal. Matt Ufford threatened to file a suit against the photographer in the event that the image wasn't removed. However, by the time the post and its images were gaining a great deal of media attention. Stokke quickly earned a following due to a separate website built with pictures of Stokke in action at the pole vault. Images then circulated via social media to thousands of internet fans.
